Help Humboldt Wildlife Care Center

The HWCC recives no state or federal funding. We survive entirely on tax-deductible, private donations and grants. Money for operating expenses and donations of supplies such as lumber, fencing, cages, nets, dog food, medical and veterinary supplies, and other lifesaving equipment are always needed. To assist HWCC with a monetary donation or membership, please use our printable donation form.

Everyone can help by being a conscientious and caring member of our community. Teach your children and friends to love and respect nature.

Remember, wilfdlife is meant to be Wild and Free. If you see an injured or orphaned bird or mammal, please contact HWCC immediately at (707) 822-8839.

It is illegal to posses any wild animal if you do not have a permit. A baby animal's best chance for survival is its mother.

If you find a baby bird with feathers, it is probably learning to fly and its parents are nearby. If the bird is safe from dogs and cats, leave it alone and monitor from a distance.

If you find a baby bird without feathers, look for the nest and put the bird back. If the nest is not available, make a substitute nest out of a small container with pine needles or other nesting material and put it in a nearby tree. Watch for the parents. If they don't return after a couple of hours, call HWCC at (707) 822-8839.

Remember that seal pups, nesting rabbits and baby deer are left for many hours while parents feed. If they are safe from pets and humans, they do not need rescuing.
